Well, the show went off with moderate results this weekend... it's was a technical nightmare, the dancing was ok, and one of the shows was cancelled on account of snow, but on the whole, it was pretty well recieved by those who witnessed it. I had an ok performance myself on Saturday evening... wasn't great, wasn't as bad as many of the other dancers... and Sunday was pretty good (improved anyway). My quick-changing abilities seemed to impress people as much as my dancing, though... hehehe... most of the comments I get are a mix of "how did you change so fast?" and "you were fun to watch"... it was interesting.
The costumes all made it to the theatre, and they all seem to have made it home (which is good news)... so I'm taking a week off (ok, a couple weeks technically) from that stress before I start sending them out and getting them washed.
So now it's on to the next great task... choreography for Adjudication in Feb. The music I wanted to use isn't going to work (I'd have to pay for its use... and I'm too poor for that sort of thing)... so I'm frantically trying to pick/find new music that inspires me; we have two weeks of rehearsals planned for the christmas break time, which is enough to crunch out a new piece if I have a good idea where it's going. Most of the dancers will be around for most of the break, so it'll be interesting to see what turns out.
Holy Wah!
It's been a while since I posted, so here's a brief summary:
Dance classes.
Nutcracker rehearsals.
Costuming.
I'll expand on that later!
You know what movie I haven't seen in too long? Drumline. That's right, the classic teen-ish-college drummer angst film of the decade. I need some hardcore drum corps rhythms mixed a semi-believable plot-line and moderate (at best) acting!
What inspires this, you ask? I stumbled into my collection of drum corps stuff from DCI (Blue Devils, Santa Clara Vanguard, Colts...) and I was tappin' my foot (and groovin', I'll admit it), to the ratta-tata-tata-tat... shbam ticka-tat-ticka-bam-ticka-tat-tick-tick-tat-tat-tattatatatata-ta tick- shbam bam crash... beat, thinkin' "I need to see that movie again"... I first saw it in a crappy-ass theatre with the lead percussionist of the Pep band, which was an awesome experience, and then never again... sad! so... I have my mission.
hm... there are some times when I wish I were more mobile... There's a master class being taught in Detroit by the Kirov this weekend that I'd love to go try out... it's just too far away! oh well! (that will be my secret mission for the next couple days... trying to get to Detroit by Sunday...
